As we near the centenary of the start of the Great War, and the inevitable media led reappraisal of events leading to it, this may be a very opportune time to assess our forty year flirtation with another man made folly, that has arguably damaged us - and Europe’s constituent nations, far more than two world wars combined!

The European Union, has in fact united no one and its existence will haunt this continent for generations, and primarily those who have criminally mislead millions into acquiescence, as their governments handed the people’s sovereignty to a clique that they knew very little about.

No single EU state ( despite the rhetoric ) has escaped the depredation resulting from their membership and a rich kaleidoscopic patchwork of diverse states, forged into nations over centuries, lies wounded and bleeding at the feet of this lunatic body.

Italy, birthplace of the Roman Empire, which was able to pass a priceless legacy to the artists and sculptors of the Renaissance is now bankrupt and administered by EU appointed accountants.

Greece, that taught the world civilisation, is now run by a troika of money counters and reduced to desperation and civil unrest.

Spain, that once ruled a gold-laden South American empire, along with pioneering colonists Portugal, impoverished as never before.

Today, even the most ardent EU protagonists are becoming alarmed and a Telegraph article recently quoted from a report by EU Commissioner Laszlo Andor, saying : "The single currency is fuelling inequality and the loss of sovereignty entailed by eurozone membership, has led to increased unemployment and hardship, in many countries.

 

In fact, the report would seem unable to find any aspect of the EU and its workings, that is of benefit to its member states, something that many here were pointing out thirty years ago.

 

The EU’s rapidly shrinking band of fanatical adherents, will assert that this ill-starred, fraud riddled project, was a noble, altruistic endeavour, that deserved to succeed, BUT IT WAS NOT, or even if it was, we know the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

 

NO, its seeds were sown in 1943 Nazi Germany, planted by devious fanatics, who saw their Third Reich being destroyed by the Allies and the Red Army and so sought an alternative route to their ends, by political machination.

After Germany’s surrender and as arrangements were being made to spirit leading Nazis to South America, they were passing the EU foetus to an equally devious, well connected band, who later found our gullible post war politicians as easy to fool as those we have today.
